SDS Intellistorm® Rainwater and Grey Water Management

Drought Mitigation
Smart rainwater and grey water recycling and attenuation system.

Key Benefits

Provides a source of water other than the mains water supply.
Protects the supply of increasingly scarce treated drinking water. Reduces water supply fees and carbon footprint.
Reuses water that might otherwise have contributed to flooding.
Limits the impact of wastewater on the natural environment and the risk of flooding of the engineered drainage infrastructure.
Operates on a fast treatment principle.
Meets demand quickly and reduces the need for large water storage tanks.
Adaptable to varying grey water supply and demand volumes.
System is sufficiently flexible to suit a wide variety of applications.

Combined Rainwater and Grey Water Recycling System

The use of a combined rainwater and grey water recycling system helps to reduce the impact of new and existing developments and buildings on stressed water supply networks, by providing a source of water that is suitable for non-potable purposes.

Reusing rainwater, typically collected from building roofs, and grey water, which has been collected primarily from showers, baths and bathroom sinks, is a crucial part of the sustainable management of water resources and can reduce mains water consumption by up to 40%.

SDS supplies fully automated systems to deliver a consistent supply of treated water to meet a site’s required daily volume. The composition of these systems varies according to the volume and sources of rainwater and grey water that can be collected and the capacity to reuse the treated water.

How Does It Work?

Both rainwater and grey water are captured and collected and, following specialised filtration, are fed back as a single supply source into the property for use in non-potable purposes such as flushing toilets, irrigation of green areas, cleaning windows and laundry washing. The treatment processes ensure that the filtration provides a fixed barrier to waterborne viruses and pathogens, meeting required quality standards.

When equipped with SDS Intellistorm® [insert link to Intellistorm page] smart, weather responsive technology the system monitors the capacity of the rainwater storage tank to capture imminent rainfall and automatically releases to the drainage network sufficient of its contents to accommodate the forecast rain.

The system is typically specified where demand volume exceeds around 8,000 to 10,000 litres per day, for example in an establishment such as a hotel, mixed use premises or residential block, due to the nature of their water use supply versus demand equilibrium.
