Pollutant Separation System

Surface water drains normally discharge to a watercourse or indirectly into groundwater via a soakaway. Contamination of the surface water by oil, chemicals or suspended solids can cause these discharges to have a serious impact on the receiving water.

SDS Aqua-Swirl® is a unique, custom engineered, flow-through water quality device that provides a highly efficient surface water treatment solution. It utilises hydrodynamic separation technology to maximise the removal of coarse sediment, debris and free-floating oil from surface water runoff.

By combining the SDS Aqua-Swirl® swirl chamber for pre-treatment, with SDS Aqua-Filter™ filtration chamber for secondary treatment, the system maximises the removal of suspended solids by up to 80%. Nutrients, heavy metals and hydrocarbons are removed, therefore, from surface water runoff prior to its final conveyance to a suitable outlet; it also helps to eliminate 40% of total phosphorous.

SDS Aqua-Swirl® can be used as part of a complete water management programme, for example when connected to a SDS GEOlight® stormwater attenuation or infiltration system, in order to capture the majority of pollutants. It can also be used, together with SDS Aqua-Filter™, to extend the lifespan and maintenance schedule of vegetative SuDS like ponds and basins and therefore provide greater protection from contamination of the flora and fauna that these natural features are intended to sustain.

Provides bespoke suite of operating data, such as silt levels and pollutants, viewable via a secure web portal dashboard with live notifications via email and text.

How Does It Work?

SDS Aqua-Swirl® uses hydrodynamic separation technology, which operates under gravity flow, in order to maximise the removal of pollutants, that are typically found attached to silts and debris within surface water runoff, before its dispersal to a suitable outlet.

As well as recovering oils and floating debris, SDS Aqua-Swirl® effectively eliminates more than 80% of total suspended solids.

SDS Aqua-Swirl® can be connected to a pre-existing stormwater management system as both inlet and outlet pipes can be tailored to site specific requirements.

When connected to a SDS SYMBiotIC™ system, SDS Aqua-Swirl® provides real time data on a broad range of key operating factors such as pollutant loads and silt capture level.
